Econyl® Fabric - A Better Choice

  • 3 min read

If everyone committed to making just a few small changes, the world could be a much better place. Consider the amount of natural resources we use just to grow our food, fuel our cars, and create the millions of goods that are produced every day. We are using resources faster than they can be replenished. What makes for an even bigger problem is when we purchase products that are disposable. We are left with an unsustainable cycle of pulling from finite resources and then quickly discarding the finished product. But change is starting to happen. By taking simple steps like creating awareness of our consumption habits, finding ways to re-purpose items no longer needed, and choosing to purchase clothing made from recycled fabric, we can make a difference — for the better.

Econyl® Recycled Yarn: What Is It?

Econyl® is the trade name for a recycled yarn that is changing the world. Made of discarded nylon products such as carpet, old fishing nets, and fabric scraps, these items that would normally be destined for the landfill are instead turned into recycled fabric that can be used for any number of clothing items, including swimsuits that are sold at The Nudist.

The recycled nylon has exactly the same properties as virgin nylon but it’s even better because it can be recycled and remade into new products an infinite number of times. This means you can support a never-ending cycle of creating and re-creating products without ever having to use more resources.

How Econyl® Recycled Nylon is Made

The process of making Econyl® recycled yarn starts with rescuing waste from landfills and oceans all over the world. That waste is then sorted and cleaned to recover all of the nylon possible. Through an intense process of purification and regeneration, the nylon waste is recycled back to its original purity. That means ECONYL® regenerated nylon is exactly the same as virgin nylon. Check out their website to learn more about Econyl® and their process for creating recycled fabric and textiles.

Uses For Econyl® Recycled Fabric

Once it goes through purification, the regenerated nylon is processed into carpet yarn and textile yarn for the fashion and interior industries. Clothing companies all over the world currently use ECONYL® regenerated nylon to create fabrics for brand new products. You’ll find it in everything from active wear to outerwear and even backpacks. At The Nudist, we choose to only work with fabrics that have as small of an impact on the environment as possible, and that’s why all of our swimsuits are made with Econyl® yarn.

Support the Environment Without Compromise

One of the biggest benefits of choosing products made with Econyl® recycled yarn is that you can enjoy purchasing new clothing items that possess all of the same qualities you love as those made with traditional (non-regenerated) nylon. The radical regeneration process that is used to regenerate the nylon ensures that it will look and function the same, while saving precious resources. It’s a win-win situation.
